Tools That Work
- Utility knife (fresh blades), metal straightedge, cutting mat/scrap.
- Vinyl plank shear for quick, low‑dust straight cuts.
- Fine‑tooth saw or jigsaw for complex shapes—cut slowly.
- Drill/holesaw for inside corners and vent openings.
Measure & Mark
- Use a square to transfer accurate lines; mark on the face.
- For repeats, make a story stick/template to save time.
Score‑and‑Snap (Fast, Clean)
- Measure twice and mark the line clearly.
- Score firmly along a straightedge 2–4 passes.
- Snap the plank downward over the edge of a bench or mat.
- Trim the backing if needed with a light pass of the knife.

Tricky Cuts
- Door jambs: undercut jambs; use a template and take small passes.
- U‑notches and vents: drill the inside corners to prevent cracks.
- Curves: score multiple times and shave gradually to the line.
Pro Measuring Tips
- Check first/last piece each row to avoid 1–2" slivers.
- Account for the expansion gap when templating around obstacles.
Safety Reminders
- Wear cut‑resistant gloves and eye protection.
- Cut on a stable surface; keep hands clear of blade paths.
- Replace dull blades immediately to reduce slip hazards.
